A couple of our mid - winter guests (John, Verna and Jeff from Colorado) caught a few trevally (one about 25 pounds) just 1/4 mile off shore, several smallish (12-15 pound) roosters, pompano on our sand flats while wading, a 175 pound sail, an unexpected dorado (a rod breaker) , bunches of 8-12 pound bonito, several large jacks....all in one week...speaking of diversity!
Brendan from Oregon had a memorable day in April landing 13 nice dorado the day after a good rain produced trash lines close to shore.
In late March water temperatures soared to close to 90 degrees (an unusual occurrance) and fish up and down the Pacific Coast went into hiding. But June and July have been solid as a rainy May ushered in clear weather and cololing water temperatures, which brings fish in close especially on incoming tides. We move with the tides to insure we're in the best place as the day progresses . We've got a few new discoveries deep in the backcountry that we are just beginning to exploit ....its a place that fish have likely never seen a fisherman let alone a fly!!
We`e pretty much booked through August and are receiving lots of calls for when we reopen in November and through Christmas/ New Years. Interestingly , many of our clients who are return travellers to Costa Rica who have now discovered our South Coast area are giving up on Guancaste and Quepos.
